Happy 2023.
I always have liked January. It's not just because it's my birthday month, but because it feels like a new start. It's also like an anniversary to me. It makes me think about the first Dry January I participated in back in 2018 (see picture above). I can still remember what I did and how it made me feel.
Back in 2018, I didn't go to meetings. It was just me and my hubby doing a little experiment, trying to detox from our holiday bliss. During those 31 days, I read a shit ton of books and autobiographies on sobriety, I focused all my attention on me (which was really hard since I'm a people pleaser) and I stayed in my own lane by not getting into other peoples drama. I was very good at listening and then letting go. All of this felt very freeing for me.
You might ask if I stayed sober after the first 31 days. The answer is no, but the experience I had during the '2018 Dry January Experiment' fueled me to take my last drink and"official launch" me into sobriety on August 24, 2018.
So thanks Dry January! I wouldn't be where I am today if I had not dabbled in the sobriety world for a few weeks!
So dabble away friends... I want to hear all about it. xoxo
